Lyn Acton + Bossa Loco
Lyn has teamed up with latin guitarist Rich Arthurs, added top class
percussion and new translations of Tom Jobim classics (Corcovado, Girl
From Ipanema, Once I Loved etc) that are more accurate than ever heard
before.
The original translations by Gene Lees et al are wonderful - but they
often stray from the original meanings of Brazilian poet Vinicius de Moraes,
songwriter Newton Mendonca and other Jobim collaborators. The Sixties
pop world demanded the twee and the nice - not the sophisiticated, the
real and the political emotions created by the poorest people on earth
living right next door to the richest.
Some of these songs have never been translated before so give English-speaking
audiences the first time to access some classics of world songwriting.
We are also lucky to include the stunning Martin Jones on trumpet (Corcovado
& Insensatez) and a beautiful flute solo from Frankie Banham on Vivo
Sonhando.
Recorded on 24/96 at Soundpaper Studios by Collis of Spring Bank West
Productions with Jay Moy from Hull Samba School and Claypit Records coming
in to produce in the last few weeks. Jay's knowledge of samba rhythms
really helped to place the bossa nova where we wanted it - as part of
samba before being part of jazz.
